The "Gay Nineties" emerged during the Physo-Emotional High and an Intellectual Low that had the Cycle in 3rd Quarter Review in the first half of the decade and in 4th Quarter Alternatives in the second half. This was a time for festivity in social endeavors and musical development, and a time for seeking alternatives in educaion and the arts. |

1890: The first gasoline powered automobiles were made by Lambert & the Duryeas in 1890-93 during
the Physical 1st Quarter Foundation. The American and National Suffrage Groups merged into the National American Women's Suffrage Association in 1890 during Emotional 1st Quarter Foundation. In this Intellectual 3rd Quarter Review Congress Passes the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890. |

1891:
Osler published "Principles and Practice of Medicine," while we were in
Physical 1st Quarter Foundation
and it remains a standard text in America. A mob lynched eleven Italian immigrants indicted for the murder of the New Orleans police chief during this Physo-Emotional High. The
decline in business in 1891 followed the Intellectual Low.

Leaders of farm and labor organizations form the
Populist, or People's Party in the

Courtship became more
open and sociably accepted during this
Emotional High.
In California the San Jose post office was built in the Romanesque style of
architecture that reflected the past in the
Intellectual 3rd Quarter Review.

1893: Automobile manufacturer Henry Ford built his first successful gasoline engine in this
Physical 1st Quarter Foundation. Colorado adopted Women’s Suffrage this year (as did Idaho in 1896) during this Emotional High. In a depression from 1893-1897 gold reserves fell below $90 million as we
were in an Intellectual Low.

1894: Inventor Simon Lake aunched "Argonaut I," a small, hand-powered submarine during the
Physical 1st Quarter Foundation. In the Physical High -
Intellectual Low, a band of jobless men led by Jacob S. Coxey marched to Washington, DC, to petition Congress for public works programs to help the unemployed, and the American Railway Union boycotted all Pullman railway cars as sympathy gesture for Pullman strikers who protested wage cuts. 1894 In a year of unemployment and labor discontent, a riot among striking miners in Pa leaves 11 dead. Sunday comics first appeared in this Emotional High.

1895: The pnuematic tire were first used in America this year as an improvement over previous tires in this Physical 1st Quarter Foundation. The words to "America the Beautiful," written by Katherine Lee Bates, appeared in July 4th for the first time in "The Congregationalist," a Boston magazine, in this Emotional High. Homer Martin introduced Impressionism to the U.S. with the painting "The Harp of the Winds" that proved to be a departure from the Hudson School of Painting in the Intellectual 4th Quarter Alternatives.

1896: Langley of Smithsonian Institute launched steam powered flights during this Physical 2nd Quarter Expansion. Much of 20th century interior design came from the Chicago magazine that began this year titled the "House Beautiful" during the Emotional High. The Progressive Education Movement began in this Intellectual 4th Quarter Alternatives.

1897: The submarine became gasoline powered and trains became a subway in Boston in the Physical 2nd Quarter Expansion. Congregational minister, Charles M. Sheldon, published "In His Steps," as collection of sermons that instructed the young to follow the example of Christ in this Emotional High. President McKinley vetoed a bill that would have required literacy test for immigrants in the Intellectual Low.

1898: During this Physical High the Spanish-American War was won in a swift manner, the and U.S. forces captured the Phillipines. S. Lanier pubication of "Music and Poetry" made the argument for music education and chairs of music at Universities in the Emotional High, and, The National Institute of Arts and Letters was founded. The Art Nouveau movement caught on in America during this Intellectual 4th Quarter Alternatives.

1899: American Samoa was placed under control of the US Navy in the Physical High. John Dewey begins a revolutized education with his publication of "The School and Society" that emphasized actual experience rather than learning traditional subjects during the Physical High-Intellectual 4th Quarter Alternatives. Gideon's spin-Off of the Christian Commercial Men's Association of America came during Emotional 2nd Quarter Expansion.
