A new millenium has begun and the interim period between ages has ended, and the birth pangs of a new era has begun. The last millennium ended the slow downfall of the machine age will bring an end to the industrial revolution that began more than two hundred years ago. As castles crumble and power shifted in the interim we left to wonder what course our ever changing world would take. Almost as soon as this millennium began we would have world change suddenly thrust upon us. Beneath the clamor and the din of the machine age were rising tides of emotional energy and intellectualism that would erupt in our turbulent first decade of a new century. That is because the a world Emotional Cycle and a world Intellectual Cycle that had both been Low would break up into the High half simultaneously as they both crossed midpoint at the same time, beginning in the year 2000. But whenever a Cycle crossed between Low and High halves in either direction, there is a brief period of chaos, or, Crossover crisis. In the case of world Cycles, a Crossover lasts for a "day" in the world arena, and a "day" in the history of the world lasts for twelve years. That means that from 2000 through 2012 the world shall be in a period of transitional crisis, not from one great Cycle, but from two. If having one cycle in a Crossover is trouble, having two in transition at the same time is more than twice as bad. This new century has started with a bang, but it is leading to a new era of romanticism and reason that will pervade as we clean up the ills and contamination of the preceding era.

Emotional Upward Crossover |

The attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001 took down both towers of the World Trade Center in New York, and destroyed part of the Pentagon Building in Washington, DC. Both attacks were accomplished by Muslim extremists who coordinated hijackings of airliners in flight and flew them into their targets, killing themselves, other passengers and crew on the planes, and many on the ground. These attacks targeted some of the quintessential icons of the previous machine age and revealed that familiar national boundaries may not define emerging power centers in the new century. Instead, ideological and conceptual values drew combatants from various nations into a coordinated attack. This was not a war between nations, this was the onslaught from enemy that the United States had not faced before, the virtual nation.
The virtual nation is a group of people banded together in a common ideological purpose even when they do not share a common geography or national borders. Seemingly amorphous groups can exist without a defined center to gather participants from various nations. In this case, such groups include Al Queda, the Taliban and more and they have emerged as entities without borders since the world has recently entered a Physical Low Cycle (a Physical High means fences are up and a Physical Low means that fences can come down). This defies the more conventional warfare where nations compete with each other for territory, trade and wealth. In some parts of Europe during the previous Physical High, uniformed troops from defined nations would even meet a predetermined and agreed upon locations to conduct their battles. Now, old structures are no longer in play and it's a different ball game.
Religious fervor fueled the attacks to shift new battles away from competing military-industrial complexes to the battlefield of ideas and radical theocracy. The Emotional Cycle that is now crossing up into the High half, is the Cycle that influences religion above all others. Since we are in an Upward Crossover now, the world is in for a heightened state of agitation and emotional turmoil for the remainder of this 12 year period.

G7 Finance Minister Reject Protectionist Policies: The Group of Seven finance ministers pledged Saturday to avoid protectionist measures as they attempt stimulate their own economies during face of the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression. At the meeting was new U.S. Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, who gave assurance President Obama's $787 billion economic recovery plan would not impinge in on free trade in any way. Protectionism is often used during a Physical High, but since the machine age is ending now that the world has entered a Physical Low we are enacting a more fluid policy across open borders like NAFTA and the lessened protectionism to make the world "flatter."

Intellectual Upward Crossover |

Iceland's Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, resigned on Monday, January 26, 2009 in lieu of the failing banking system and financial collapse of the country. During heavy protests demonstrators had burned an effigy of the Prime Minister on January 21. The Social Democratic Alliance party was formed to fill the void and the new coalition Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir took over as Prime Minister on January 30. The new government will stay in place until elections that were already scheduled in May take place. The collapse of this government is part of the global financial collapse that is occurring during the Intellectual Crossover of the 528 year Intellectual Cycle that is crossing up through the midpoint of chaos and putting the world in a 12-year period of transitional crisis from 2000 - 2012.
Anti-government demonstrations took place in Moscow and throughout Russia on January 30, 2009, by demonstrators who expressed their frustration the country slips deeper into depression. A drop in oil prices, global economic downturn, government spending of billions to bail out failing banks and companies, rising unemployment and a rapidly devaluing ruble were all part of the economic morass. The economic turmoil in Russia takes place as the world faces economic change and chaos. This occurs while an Intellectual Crossover results from the 528 Intellectual Cycle crosses up through the midpoint of chaos putting the world in 12 year transitional period of crisis from 2000 - 2012.

The U.S. Forest Service discovered that a sprinkle of flakes that contain the pheromone verbenone over lodgepole pine forests will diminish the number of trees that are attacked by bark beetles by two thirds. Verbone is and ingredient of rosemary and walnut husks and is approved as for use in herbal teas. It is also similar to a pheromone that beetle emit to tell other beetles that their tree is getting crowded and they should pick another tree. The search was on for an expensive method to distribute the flakes and it turns out that sprinkling from helicopters is the best. This costs $110 an acre, as opposed to $1,000 an acre or more for forest thinning or the use of insecticide which are expensive and kill beneficial insects.
This intelligent method differs from the old school of the machine age which was to find a chemical that kills a pest then blanket the area with it, only to discover the dreadful side effects afterwards. The use of more natural and efficient treatments is a signpost to the next two centuries during which the Cycles will reverse from a previous Physical High with Intellectual Low, to our newly developing Physical Low with Intellectual High.

Hybrid Vehicles continue to the forefront. At the 67th annual Washington Auto Show took place in D.C. on February 3, 2009, automakers discussed hardwiring America's streets and parking lots to recharge a fleet of electric cars that they hope to produce. Electric mileage currently proves to be much cheaper than gasoline as the electricity to charge the Cheverolet Volt's battery to drive 40 miles costs only 80 cents. GM plans to offer plug-in hybrids rather than pure battery electrics and Ford, Chrysler, Nissan, Mini, Smart and others have announced plans to sell electric vehicles within a few years. Toyota has reportedly accelerated its plans to deliver of 500 plug-in Prius later this year and the trend is growing.
Hybrid Vehicles developed as an alternative to over-powered automobiles and wasteful, polluting transportation vehicles of various types. This marked one of the early moves away from oil, which is the blood line of the former machine age. In the first year that the our Physical Low began, U.S. Congress enacted Public Law 94-413, the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Research, Development, and Demonstration Act of 1976. General Motors spent more than $20 million on research and development from 1977 - 1979, Dave Arthurs of Springdale, Arkansas converted an Opal GT into a hybrid car that got 75 miles to a gallon, and Briggs and Stratton developed a twin cylinder four stroke hybrid car in 1980. Advancements in production continued from Audi, the United States Advanced Battery Consortium, Toyota. The Clinton administration launched the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) in 1993 which spent a billion dollars over several years and produced three hybrid prototypes of 80mpg cars. The first hybrid care available in the United States, the Toyota Plus, appeared in 2000 and the Honda Civic Hybrid appeared in 2002. Now hybrid cars, two wheeled vehicles, power trains are in production and Delta Airlines will be turning their Boeing 737NGs into hybrids in 2010. Wind Power catches the winds of change. The Associated Press announced on October 7, 2008 that Governor Corzine wants New Jersey to triple its use of wind power. Plans are ongoing to increase wind power to 3,000 megawatts, which is 13 percent of the state's energy consumption. Garden State Offshore Energy and PSE&G Renewable Generation and Deepwater Wind entered into a joint venture last week to build a $1 billion, 345 megawatt wind farm in the ocean some 16 miles southwest of Atlantic City to supply 125,000 homes.
Variations in mechanical advancements are due not only to the Cyclic propensity for inventive expansion in the United States at this time, but to the position of Cycles in the world as well, namely, Megarhythms. The position of Megarhythms now is such that the 336 Physical Cycle in a period of reform comes after the previous High that gave us the machine age of the 19th and 20th centuries. Another Megarhythm, the 528 Intellectual Cycle has that has been rising since that latter part of the 19th century is just crossing up in the High half now. This mean that we are configured for a Physical Low with an Intellectual High for the remainder of century and part of the next. That translates into our developing smarter altnernative to waseful and desctructive means of power. Wind power has been developing for year and will likely continue.

A Colorado School District Does Away with Grade Levels: When elementary and middle-school students return to school in Westminster, Colorado nest fall, there will be no grade levels or traditional grades. This and other changes are designed to change dismal test scores and an ever increasing dropout rate. This is part of the new "standards-base" educational approach that will adopted in this 10,000-student district in the metropolitan Denver area with hopes that it will achieve success as it has in some small districts in Alaska. This will be the largest test to date of the new system.
The district is doing away with traditional grade levels for children younger than eighth grade and it has plans to phase the new method through high school one year at a time. They will ultimately have 10 multi-age levels to replace than the 12 grades and students may be in different levels depending on the subject. They will move up only after they demonstrate mastery of the material. Students will even play a role in planning their own lessons and articulating their goals.
Lessening of fixed boundaries and fenced methods of operation comes is coming about to many systems now that the 336 year Physical Cycle has recently crossed into the Low Half.

Elementary and secondary schools began participation with the first National Green Week as teacher bring "green" living lessons into the classroom. Students shall be taught select reusable snack containers over their disposable counterparts in order to reduce waste. Nation Green Week is organized by the Green Education Foundation which seeks to lead children in "balance individual freedom with the good of society" and to encourage families to raise children with new priorities. Reform for the ills of the mess we created with the previous machine age comes as the Physical High subsides to a Physical Low as it enter 3rd Qtr. of Review and Reform.

Singularity University is a departure from traditional education that will host its first class of 30 graduate students this summer. The nine a nine week course it offers will explore ways in which technology can improve the life and welfare of humankind, rather than harm it. Plans for Singularity will be announced today in Long Beach, California at the annual Technology, Entertainment and Design conference (TED).
Singularity will be base in the silicon valley and housed on the NASA Ames base near Mountain View, California and it is the product of renown scientists, Ray Kurzweil and Peter Diamandis. Target subjects for the new school will be based on poverty, famine, disease, global warming and dwindling energy supplies. With the idea that technology will be many more times powerful than it is now, focus will be on how to harness this for the good rather than have it lead to social upheaval. Said Diamondis, We are reaching out across the globe to gather the smartest and most passionate future leaders and arm them with the tools and network they need to wrestle with the grand challenges of our day.
In that the new school will focus on technology as a means of bettering the plight of humanity, rather than blinding rendering destructive side effects, reflects the era of reforms that come when a Cycle enters the Low half to begin a period of 3rd Quarter Review.. The 336 year Physical Cycle has done just that, ending the previous Physical High that gave us the late great machine age and industrial revolution. Now the Intellectual Cycle is breaking into the High halfc to give us an Intellectual High that is reflected in the all encompassing objectives of Singularity University that seeks not only to obtain knowledge, but to find how to use it wisely. Can it be that we are seeing the combined effect of Physical 3rd Qtr. Review with an Intellectual High in our schools already?

The So-called Holy Wars reached new levels with the attacks on the USA on September 11, 2001. When two planes were flown into the World Trade Center buildings and another plane was flown in the Pentagon Building in Washington, D.C., is was the organized result of the religious fanatic group, Al Qaeda. The object of Al Qaeda is to bring about an Islamic Jihad, jihad is Arabic for holy war. While the concept of "holy wars" is not new, the unprecedented attack on North America and the wars that have resulted from the attack reflect the agitated state of world affairs at this time. A shift from war as a means for territorial expansion or acquisition of wealth to a expression of religious ideology coincides with the Emotional crisis that is due with an Upward Emotional Crossover that is occurring now. We can expect more surprises before this 12-year period of crisis is over.

The Virtual Library Expands with Amazon's Kindle: Amazon Kindle is a wireless e-book reader for reading electronic books that was launched by Amazon.com in November, 2007. Amazon's Wireless Reading Device used electronic pager for content downloaded from the Amazon Whispernet. Amazon debuted in November, 2007, with the release of 88,000 digital titles and the first available batch of Kindles sold out in 4 ½ hours. Now, just 14 months later, Amazon offers greater than 230,000 books, newspapers, magazine and blogs. While Kindle only works in the United States, Amazon plans to launch its product in the United Kingdom other countries in Europe soon as technical details are worked out.
The Virtual library has become a world force since the launch of the World Wide Web in 1991 by the pan European organization, CERN, later replaced in popularity by Mosaic in 1993. Web sites full of information quickly grew into the millions and the subsequent development of viable Search Engines allowed for search queries across multiple web sites in an instant. This turned the Internet to a viable resource to which many turned as a more powerful alternative to conventional libraries and book stores. The virtual library that transcend the physical limitations of printed media has steadily grown with the ascent of the 528 year Intellectual Cycle which has recent broken into Intellectual High.

Thomas L. Friedman authored "The World is Flat" in 2005 to describe the globalization of the world as so many countries become part of the glogal supply chain for services and marketing. This "flattening" of the world means a changing of the rules that developed when a few dominant national economies ruled the world. This lessening of economic boundaries comes now the we have entered a Physical Low. The expansion of technology and commerce with international trade is developing now that we have just entered and Intellectual High. Together, the Physical Low and Intellectual High means that we have a fluid exchange across boundaries that once were rigid. These changes reflect our direction that is due to last for nearly the next century and a half.

The Rise of Women in the Olymipics: A look at last year's 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the ascent of women leading up to the games: The record breaking participation of women in the 2008 Olympic Games was the product of more than a century of progress of women in sports. When Barron Pierre de Coubertin of France proposed a revival of the Olympic Games in the 1890s the world Physical Cycle was near its Peak and the world Emotional Cycle influencing women's issues was near the bottom. Both Pierre du Coubertin and tthe International Olympic Committee (IOC) opposed the participation of women. Although women were excluded from the 1896 Olympics, nineteen women became the first female participants in the 1900 Games in Paris. The number of women in subsequent Olympic Games steadily increased and women took Gold Medals in various events. Title IX of the USA Education Act of 1972 helped decrease discrimination to an extent, ruling that "No person.shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance." In 1991, IOC members decided that sport introduced for the Olympic program had to include both men's and women's events. The Olympic Charter received a new rule in 1994 that ordered the IOC to promote women in sports at all levels and act with "strict application of the principle of equality of men and women." In 1995 IOC created a "Women and Sport" group to advise them how to promote this equality. The 2000 Sydney Olympic Games had almost two female athletes for every three male athletes, which was a record ratio, and 44% of the events were open to women.
The 2008 Olympics had more than 42 per cent of participants made up by women in the 2008 Games in Beijing. Out of 11,196 total athletes, 4,746 were women's sports, a record breaking ratio for the event.2 Data provided by Mr. Winter and Alan Wurtzel, president for research at NBC Universal, showed that a record 49 percent of the viewers of the NBC coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics were women ages 18 and older, followed by men ages 18 and older, at 41 percent. (The rest are viewers in other demographic groups.)
The rise in women's participation in Olympic games traces the ascent of the 432 Emotional Cycle from its bottom in 1892 through its break into the High half in 2000. Throughout the rise of the Cycle women's participation rose in sports. Now that we have recently entered the and Emotional High in a world Cycles that will continue to rise throughout this century, we have attained equality and nearly equal participation for women in the world arena of sports. The Emotional Cycle historically had coincided with the ascent and decline of feminine energy and the status of women in the world.

Victoria Beckham avoided PETA this by wearing faux-fur as she jetted out of Milan this week dawning a faux fur stoll instead of a real one. Victoria reflects what has become a major shift from wearing actual fur that was so eagerly sought a few decade ago. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) objects to the cruel caging and deplorable living conditions of animals raised on fur farms for the purpose so that they may be killed for their furs. While this behavior escaped scrutiny while we were in the previous Physical High, which have since entered a Physical Low which puts in a period of 3rd Quarter Review in Reform when we evaluated our behavior. This is a trend that will continue.

Social Networking Reflects Rising Emotional & Intellectual Trends: Social Networking services create online communities with which people can contact each other and share interests and activities through e-mail and instant messaging services and friends lists. A meteoric rise in the popularity of these services reflects a growing social interest for interpersonal communication. MySpace and Facebook are most widely used in North America; Nexopia (mostly in Canada); Bebo, Facebook, Hi5, MySpace, Tagged, Xing; and Skyrock in parts of Europe; Orkut and Hi5 in South America and Central America; and Friendster, Orkut, Xiaonei and Cyworld in Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Although early forms of social networking go back as far as the 1990s such as Classmates.com in 1995 for old school mates to find each other, and SixDegrees.com in 1997 for those with indirect ties, it was the more recent services of this decade that have facilitated viral expansion. Most popular among these are MySpace.com and Facebook.com MySpace.com opened in 2003, modeled on the potential success demonstrated by the opening of Friendster.com in 2002. MySpace became the most popular social networker in 2006 and it opened its 100 millionth account in the Netherlands in August of that year. Facebook began in 2004 and was initially used by Universities, then High Schools until it was opened to everyone over age 13 in September, 2006, and in September, 2008, Facebook announced that it would set up it international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
The explosion of Social Networking is taking place because it is now technically possible for the first time, but it also coincide with the fact the both the 432 Emotional Cycle and the 528 Intellectual Cycle have simultaneously crossed up in the High half in 2000 to make both the 21st and 22nd centuries a time in which we will have and Emo-Intellectual High.
