Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act

The first act signed into law by President Obama was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act which he did with Lilly Ledbetter by his side. Lilly Ledbetter had worked at a company for 19 years not knowing that her male counterparts were being paid more for doing the same job. In comparison, she lost $200,000 in salaray and even more in Social Security and pension benefits. She sued and took her case all the way to the Supreme Court. Equal pay requires that people differentiated by gender or other groups will receive equal pay for doing the same job. Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin gave an historic speech at the Republican National Convention on September 3, 2008. This speech was historic because she is the first woman to accept the Republican nomination to be their Vice Presidential candidate. This advancement for women comes during an Emotional High in American Cycles. In contrast, when were in an Emotional Low in 1984, former Vice President and Presidential candidate Walter Mondale selected Geraldine Ferraro as the first woman to run as the Vice Presidential candidate in American history, but the ticket suffered historic losses later that year in the general election. Protests and Demonstrations at the DNC and the RNC

An increase is public demonstrations can occur during a Physical High and they are more likely to occur during an Emotional High. Now we are in a Physo-Emotional High and are seeing the largest and most fervent demonstrations at political conventions since 1968. The Faith in Action Interfaith worship services that opened as the first official event of the Democratic National Convention on August 24, 2008 were interrupted moments after commencement by a few protesters who stood up and shouted that Obama supports murder by way of abortion. A small band of pro-life advocates protesters held huge posters showing gruesome pictures of aborted babies as a leader shouted anti-abortion protests over a bullhorn before people as they entered the convention. This first day of the Democratic National Convention will begin a precedent setting event for African Americans. Presumptive nominee, Senator Barak Obama, is the first African American to win the majority of delegates through in the primary elections. This advancement, like many advancement for members of a minority, coincides with an Emotional High. Here are some other precedents in history: Frederick Douglass was the first African-American to receive a vote for president at a major party convention, he got 1 vote from Republicans in 1888 (Emo. This first day of the Democratic National Convention will begin a precedent setting event for women. Advancements for women often coincide with an Emotional High 1991-2009 in the Cycles. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi spoke on opening night at the convention. Nancy Pelosi became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House of Representative on January 4, 2007, following her elections in November, 2006. Michelle Obama who is scheduled to speak on behalf of her husband, Barak Obama, will become the first spouse of a presumptive nominee to speak at a convention on the opening night.
